Contemporary Art Materials

Over the last 50 years there has been an explosion of new materials that today’s artists have bee experimenting with. In order to repair any damaged works made with some of these contemporary art materials then extensive trials are required prior to treatment.

With contemporary paintings and sculptures we liase with artists and their suppliers and carry out tests with some of the more unusual materials and methods prior to their treatment.

As with old master, modern and also contemporary artworks, materials introduced to the artwork must comply with international standards of reversibility and longevity.

Some contemporary materials treated include:
Fibreglass
Polyester resin
Chocolate
Expanded foam
Photographic material
“Red Boy” by Liu Bolin, cellulose car paint over fibreglass substrate
– mid treatment

Zimmermann – Epoxy Resin over pigmented epoxy. Area burn prior to treatment.
